Retraite 2018

2018 was a year of tran­si­tion for me: a phase in my life came to an end, a new one was go­ing to be­gin. There would be farewells, changes and new be­gin­nings; many things would evolve, oth­ers would stay the same. I want­ed to cel­e­brate this tran­si­tion with a month-long re­treat in the stu­dio cell of  Kar­tause It­tin­gen that would al­low me to in­tense­ly think about these changes, re­flect on the past and peer in­to the fu­ture and, al­so, for a lim­it­ed time span, give un­re­strict­ed space to the one con­stant en­ti­ty in my every­day life, by ex­clu­sive­ly con­cen­trat­ing on my ar­tis­tic work.

This in­ter­play be­tween change and con­sis­ten­cy is il­lus­trat­ed by a piece with­in my "Dai­ly Walk­ing" se­ries: same rit­u­al, dif­fer­ent rules. In the course of 24 days (in­stead of 100), I walked dai­ly for 1 hour (in­stead of 30 min­utes), I processed im­pres­sions and thoughts (in­stead of pho­togra­phies) and sewed and stitched by hand (in­stead of us­ing a sewing ma­chine).
