Alea2021, 85 x 500 cm

From cut­ting the blocks of Peo­ple, a pile of about 400 fab­ric strips re­mained; I did­n't want to just throw them away! I de­cid­ed to cre­ate a piece il­lus­trat­ing the prin­ci­ple of ran­dom­ness: the fab­ric strips were sort­ed by the six ba­sic col­ors (yel­low, or­ange, red, pur­ple, blue, green) and each col­or was as­signed to a num­ber on the die. I rolled two dice to de­ter­mine which col­or for the fab­ric strip and which col­or for the sewing thread I had to use. If the strips did­n't fit to­geth­er per­fect­ly be­cause of their dif­fer­ent widths, a small gap ap­peared through which the white back­ground can be seen.  I al­so sim­ply left a white space if the die chose a col­or of which I had al­ready used up all the fab­ric strips.

The ti­tle is of course a ref­er­ence to the say­ing alea iac­ta est, the die is cast.
