Alea2021, 85 x 500 cm
From cutting the blocks of People, a pile of about 400 fabric strips remained; I didn't want to just throw them away! I decided to create a piece illustrating the principle of randomness: the fabric strips were sorted by the six basic colors (yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, green) and each color was assigned to a number on the die. I rolled two dice to determine which color for the fabric strip and which color for the sewing thread I had to use. If the strips didn't fit together perfectly because of their different widths, a small gap appeared through which the white background can be seen. I also simply left a white space if the die chose a color of which I had already used up all the fabric strips.
The title is of course a reference to the saying alea iacta est, the die is cast.
