orHOM­MAGE TO THE BARONESS EL­SA VON FREY­TAG-LOR­ING­HOVEN100 run-over, flat­tened cans col­lect­ed dur­ing my walks.

The piece is of course a ref­er­ence to the fa­mous "Camp­bel­l's Soup Cans" by Andy Warhol. Thus, the ti­tle has a dou­ble mean­ing: re­cy­cling of the cans and re­cy­cling of Warhol's idea.

El­sa von Frey­tag-Lor­ing­hoven (12.7.1874 – 15.12.1927) was a Ger­man artist of the Da­da move­ment. This is a (trans­lat­ed) quote from a let­ter she sent to a friend: "Sarah, if you see a can on the street, wait un­til a lor­ry has run over it and then bring it to me".

Ob­vi­ous­ly, Andy Warhol was not the first artist (nor the last) to be fas­ci­nat­ed by cans...
