orHOMMAGE TO THE BARONESS ELSA VON FREYTAG-LORINGHOVEN100 run-over, flattened cans collected during my walks.
The piece is of course a reference to the famous "Campbell's Soup Cans" by Andy Warhol. Thus, the title has a double meaning: recycling of the cans and recycling of Warhol's idea.
Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven (12.7.1874 – 15.12.1927) was a German artist of the Dada movement. This is a (translated) quote from a letter she sent to a friend: "Sarah, if you see a can on the street, wait until a lorry has run over it and then bring it to me".
Obviously, Andy Warhol was not the first artist (nor the last) to be fascinated by cans...
